My role
I am an analyst in Global Banking, and I help with loan underwriting, compliance administration, and financial statement analysis. My group provides financial services for mid-sized companies ($50 million to $500 million in revenues), large corporations (more than $500 million in annual revenues), and foreign-owned companies that engage in international commerce. We offer traditional trade services such as letters of credit, documentary collections, open account services, and online trade management tools. We also offer cross-border financing, including transactions using government-guaranteed programs, private credit insurance, and risk management tools.
What keeps me interested?
The most interesting aspect of my job is being able to work with clients in different countries and learning the intricacies of carefully structuring deals within these different countries and regions of the world. On any given day, I could be researching compliance rules in Argentina or the Ukraine to finalize an important deal, or reviewing financial statements from an overseas supplier. Many issues may arise throughout the underwriting process, but it is my job to be the first to identify compliance issues, financial statement concerns, and industry risks.
I am working on a deal that has been a shared client with the Business Banking Group (BBG) since 1997. BBG typically works with smaller clients (up to $20 million in annual revenues) than we do in Global Banking. Our client is the world’s leading manufacturer of agricultural spraying and firefighting aircraft, and has grown tremendously in the past few years primarily through international sales. We are transitioning the entire relationship to Global Banking because the client’s success and increased global needs have outpaced BBG’s capabilities. Through Wells Fargo and the Export-Import Bank of the United States, the company gets the financing it needs to support its global aircraft business.
Wells Fargo culture
Wells Fargo has a strong and diverse culture. There are many interest groups and cultural groups here that allow team members to get involved in something they believe in. Wells Fargo also believes in helping its team members maintain work-life balance, which is extremely important to me as a young professional. I’ve worked at other banks and financial institutions, and this culture is what brought me to Wells Fargo.
Another great aspect of our culture is the importance the company places on mentors. I have had the opportunity to have both formal and informal mentors at Wells Fargo, and my mentors were very knowledgeable, experienced, helpful, and dependable. I can rely on my mentors to offer informative advice and coach me through challenging situations.
