Mahita Tummala
Applications Systems Engineer Enterprise Global Services
Hyderabad, India
If you want to see what the future of banking technology looks like, talk to Mahita Tummala, Applications Systems Engineer with Wells Fargo Enterprise Global Services. Based in the sprawling Wells Fargo technology offices in the Indian city of Hyderabad, Mahita works on the development of microservices (small collaborative services that can be individually deployed) and next-generation biometric solutions for Wells Fargo’s Community Banking customers.
With a professional background in technology, she joined the bank in 2015 and has worked as a developer of customer applications ever since. “Back then I did not know much about Wells Fargo, but I was interested in banking and technology and I wanted to learn,” recalls the applications systems engineer. “For me it has been an interesting journey. What I enjoy most is the team culture and the working environment at the bank.”
The future is now
Most of the work that Mahita and her colleagues do is focused on making Wells Fargo’s current technology architecture more agile and on offering simpler, cloud-based solutions to customers. The changes are expected to improve the customer experience with the help of technology. “It is exciting to be able to drive these changes and the transformation leading to the adoption of cloud-based solutions, as well as to learn about new technologies like biometrics and their application in banking.”
Among Mahita’s recent successes were the development of innovative voice biometric authentication for Wells Fargo customers and internal applications, cardless ATMs, mobile wallets, and a new money-management tool called Green House, all in partnership with a team.
Architects of their future
Mahita makes best use of Wells Fargo’s in-house training opportunities, in particular, of modules that increase her understanding of the banking sector, for which she does technology development. She also attends sessions with external trainers that help her to better understand the latest technology trends.
“If you want to be successful in a highly complex organization like Wells Fargo, you need to understand the business and to be aware of what is going on in the market. You also need to be patient and able to adapt. At Wells Fargo, there are lots of opportunities for personal development. We are the architects of our future here. We can chart out our individual development plan and set goals and work towards fulfilling them.”
Well-balanced employee experience
According to Mahita, what differentiates Wells Fargo from other organizations is the opportunity to work on exciting projects from inception to completion. “I can always approach my manager to sign up for new projects. I also appreciate the possibility of flexible work arrangements and the opportunity to grow in my job.”
Wells Fargo’s culture actively encourages volunteering among team members across the globe. In India, Mahita volunteers every year and together with her team mates is active in fund-raising activities for the benefit of a local Non-Governmental Orgnisation (NGO).
No wonder then that Mahita is very positive about her future career prospects at Wells Fargo. “These are exciting times to join the bank in a technology role. Certainly, the huge database of available technology will require from new joiners a steep learning curve but the effort is worth it. In the next couple of years, I am very much interested in further developing my career and becoming an even stronger contributor to the success of Wells Fargo.”
