Jens Moericke
Branch Manager Wells Fargo Bank International Unlimited Company
Frankfurt, Germany
For Jens Moericke, starting work at Wells Fargo has not only been a step change in his career but also a very satisfying experience.
Jens joined the bank in early 2015 after a successful career at the German Stock Exchange and as a lawyer in several international law firms. “I started as an external consultant but then decided that I wanted to join a great brand name so I became a full-time Wells Fargo team member.”
Having worked initially in the anti-money laundering and compliance area, Jens is now manager of the Wells Fargo branches in Germany with responsibilities in the areas of regulatory compliance, business oversight, finance, administration, operations and tax. Based right in the heart of Germany’s financial capital, Jens ensures that Wells Fargo operates within a sound and stable regulatory framework.
Retaining the pioneer spirit
In Germany, where it has offices in Frankfurt and Dusseldorf, Wells Fargo has no retail banking operations and is therefore not a household name. It is however well-known in wholesale banking and asset management markets and an attractive employer for professionals who want to make their mark.
“Wholesale banking and asset management in the region are very competitive but I am certain there is ample opportunity to make brands like Wells Fargo more prominent. Wells Fargo in Europe has a certain pioneer spirit, which goes back to the bank’s origins in the U.S. You can develop new things, think about what you can do better, and offer local clients products that will best meet their needs.”
Enjoying a great job
Jens sees his career progression, and in particular becoming branch manager, as his major achievement at Wells Fargo. “It’s a great job, I enjoy it and I am very proud. I especially like the versatility of the job – every day is different.”
“There is no doubt that my regulatory background has helped me a lot in my role. I also had the opportunity to gain new managerial and people skills. As a lawyer you often work on your own, whereas now I am collaborating with team members from different countries.”
“The international environment at Wells Fargo is also especially stimulating. For example, in our Frankfurt office we have people from over ten different nationalities. This allows me to learn a lot and to develop intercultural working relationships. The team spirit is also impressive. Colleagues from different parts of the organization and in different countries are all very welcoming. To me, Wells Fargo feels very much like a family. This is why I like going to work every day.”
With about 80 team members, the German offices are active in volunteering and regularly take part in Wells Fargo’s community campaigns. For instance, recently team members have done some volunteer work for a “Kinderdorf” (a village for orphans and socially disadvantaged children), taken part in an ecological project on the banks of the river Main, and collected funds for charities.
Your chance to grow and develop
Like all team members in Wells Fargo, Jens makes best use of the many learning and development opportunities offered by the bank. Besides the various e-learning courses, he also attends in-person training sessions in London.
To professionals who are considering joining Wells Fargo, Jens has this to say: “Be open-minded, interested and eager to learn. Wells Fargo gives you the chance to grow and develop. So take it! Even if you start your career in one country, you still can progress and work in other countries, too. Everywhere at Wells Fargo, you will feel welcome. It's like a true family.
