Jessica Sinn
Analyst Wholesale Credit Wells Fargo Canada
Toronto, Canada
Fresh from her studies in Business Administration at Canada’s Wilfrid Laurier University, Jessica Sinn was eager to turn her theoretical knowledge into practical experience. Upon graduation in 2018, she joined Wells Fargo Canada’s Middle Market Banking division, where she now works as a wholesale credit analyst in the Financial Analyst Program.
Jessica originally gained experience at the bank as a four-month summer intern in 2017, and sought full-time employment with Wells Fargo after completing her studies. “I have always wanted to work for an international bank and to interact with colleagues with different experiences and backgrounds,” recalls Jessica.
With a sizable footprint in Canada and with even more offices around the world, Wells Fargo offers excellent job growth opportunities for budding financial professionals.
Gaining useful experience from the start
One of the most memorable moments for Jessica was at the end of her summer internship, when she was given the opportunity to prepare a loan report entirely on her own: “From start to finish I worked independently and this allowed me to gain useful experience for the future.”
In her current role in Middle Market Banking, Jessica is tasked with analyzing potential clients’ financial statements and assessing the clients’ credit worthiness, which helps Wells Fargo relationship managers to decide on the clients’ fit to Wells Fargo. She also does due diligence of existing clients, loan monitoring, and credit reporting. In Middle Market Banking typical clients are businesses with up to a U.S.$1 billion turnover.
Environment that champions careers for women
“In general, the consensus is that Wells Fargo has significantly increased its efforts to attract female talent in Canada”, says Jessica.
Wells Fargo’s Diversity & Inclusion Council in Canada is an active champion of gender diversity at the bank and has several activities throughout the year, for example Celebrating Canadian women series featuring 20 women throughout the month of March to commemorate the celebration of International Women’s Day.
The council works in partnership with the Wells Fargo Capital Finance Women’s team member network and the Women of Wells Fargo Equipment Finance team member network group which advance the retention and promotion of women at all levels. Both networks host various events during the year including professional development sessions and bilingual panel discussions on Women in Leadership, as well as nationwide community events.
Well-structured development path
As an early-tenured professional, Jessica benefits from the many development opportunities offered by Wells Fargo. She has already attended several webinar courses in financial analysis and credit fundamentals, which she found very engaging and interactive.
She is also extremely enthusiastic about Wells Fargo’s Financial Analyst Program, which provides classroom training over several years at the bank’s offices in San Francisco, CA, Minneapolis, MN, and Charlotte, NC. After completion of the course, Jessica will be able to pursue a career as either a relationship manager or a portfolio
Broad client exposure and a great team
“The thing I like most in my job is being able to apply the concepts learned at school and at the same time being able to do new things. My job is very hands-on and I find this really enjoyable.” The young analyst also values the many client-facing opportunities and learning about different industries, which only a global business like Wells Fargo can offer.
Approaching everything with an open mind and not being afraid to ask questions from the start is what has made Jessica’s tenure at Wells Fargo so successful. “I will definitely recommend Wells Fargo to recent college graduates who are considering a career in finance. Here, there are so many development opportunities. Work is very broad in scope and team members are great to work with.”
