The Past: “How did you get here?”
What distinguished Wells Fargo from other competitors, as a professional opportunity for you?
I chose Wells Fargo Securities because it was the only job that allowed me to have exposure to 7 different roles within a 2 year time period. Also, it was a role that was marketed as the fast track to management. I minored in management and I have always sought to manage people so that appealed to me. Seven jobs in just two years equaled an extreme amount of knowledge and networking opportunities. I recognized that opportunity, took a chance and moved across the country to begin my career at Wells Fargo Securities.
The Present: “What do you do here?”
What is a typical work day like for you?
My typical day of work consists of strategizing, finding solutions for issues impacting Wells Fargo Securities team and working with cross-functional team members to drive things forward.
What was your most enjoyable project at Wells Fargo? Why?
My most enjoyable project at Wells Fargo was finding a solution to a major issue that spanned multiple cross-function teams. I enjoyed working on this because I was able to learn about multiple LOB and solution between teams. It was very challenging but ultimately very rewarding as it resulted in a large cost savings.
What are the top three skills (technical and soft) that are required, daily, in your role?
The top three skills that are required would be communication skills, competency in the Microsoft office suite, and Capital Markets industry knowledge.
How would you describe the corporate culture of your group?
The corporate culture on my team is direct, honest, and hard working.
The Future: "Where do you want to go?"
What future opportunities do you hope to embark on in your career? Does Wells Fargo provide avenues to foster these goals?
Wells Fargo is a great place to start your career for many reasons but specifically because it is so large. Wells Fargo encourages networking so if you want to learn more about different areas of the bank you can just reach out. They also encourage you to partake in internal networks. I am a member of the women’s and Middle East network. It is a great place to meet professionals like you and who knows where those relationships will take you.
Advice: A word to the wise…
A motivational piece of advice you wish someone told you as a young professional going into your specific industry?
As a young professional the corporate world can seem intimidating, overwhelming and complex. It is only as much of those things as you make it. It is not rocket science and the sooner you come to realize that, the quicker you will be able to take the reins on your career. So, my advice to you is stay positive, be yourself and share your ideas (they are equally valuable as a Wells Fargo veteran)!
