What led you to start your career with Wells Fargo?
I would not have guessed that I would have the career I have now if you’d asked me at the beginning of college. During my sophomore year, I heard about a Diversity Summit hosted by Wells Fargo Securities, and decided to apply. At the conference, I was amazed at how little I knew about investment banking and sales & trading, and my passion for learning new things drove me to research key topics from the summit. I read everything I could about finance, and also made an effort to stay connected to those I met at the summit.
I saw a career with Wells Fargo Securities as a great opportunity to learn and grow. I was able to secure an internship as an analyst for the summer between my junior and senior year of school, and was thrilled to join the Equity Sales and Trading team as a full time analyst after I graduated.
What do you enjoy about your current role?
My main job is to serve as a liaison between our research analysts and our clients. I try to package the research produced by Wells Fargo Securities in a way that my clients will appreciate and find valuable, which in turn generates business and strengthens Wells Fargo’s relationships. It’s a unique opportunity to meet with some of the smartest people on Wall Street as well as corporate-level management teams — the networking aspect of my job is incredible, and I’m still learning new things every day. I’m not sure where my career will take me next, but I’m glad that I started with Wells Fargo.

Why is WFS a good place to start your career?
Wells Fargo Securities (WFS) is growing, and where there is growth, there is opportunity. The opportunities for junior talent at Wells Fargo are extensive and unmatched by our competitors. Senior management will give you as much responsibility as you can handle, regardless of corporate title. WFS promotes an inclusive culture that fosters growth and development of talent. People here want to see you succeed and do well. Your opinion matters. Even as a new analyst with little knowledge of the business, coworkers respect your fresh perspective.
What do you wish you had known when going through campus recruiting?
Network, network, network. If you’ve heard this advice once, you’ve heard it 100 times. Early in your career, remember that by networking you’re asking people to put their reputation on the line when they recommend you for a position. Give someone a reason to fight for your opportunity at Wells Fargo. It never hurts to ask someone to grab a coffee or walk to lunch; the worst thing they can say is “no.” The more people you know the better. You never know when someone in another group will be able to help you.
What do you love about your job?
The people. I don’t think I realized how important this would be in my first job. When you work for people that you like, you want to do well. You want to do excellent work so that your team looks good. The people I work for have encouraged me to challenge myself and trust my own judgment, and have taught me how to be successful in my role.
How valuable are team networks?
I participate in Government and Institutional Banking’s (GIB) Diversity and Engagement Council (DEC) and the Women’s Network. The networking opportunities are invaluable. Through these organizations I have met senior leaders and colleagues in different parts of our financial institution, and I have learned about different lines of business. GIB DEC gave me the opportunity to be a part of the recruitment committee. I was able to work on an initiative to start a summer internship program for sophomores, who WFS previously did not hire. The pilot GIB Sophomore Analyst Program began in summer of 2014 and enabled me to work on something totally different from my daily duties as an analyst.
What do you like to do when you aren't at work?
I am active and social. I like to spend time outdoors, with friends, and working out. If I can figure out a way to do all three at once, that’s even better.

Why did you choose to work at Wells Fargo Securities (WFS)?
I was impressed with everyone I met from Wells Fargo Securities on both a professional and a personal level. Everyone was driven and down-to-earth, plus they took a particular interest in finding the best match for my skill-set. It was a no-brainer at the time, and my conviction has only grown since.
Why is WFS a good place to start your career?
Judging by my experience, WFS is not afraid to give you responsibility early on in your career, values your development, and will surround you with the type of people you can trust and enjoy working with.
What do you think makes someone successful at WFS?
Being personable, genuine, and hard-working makes someone successful at WFS.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Part of the challenge within my particular group is building a broad-based knowledge across all asset classes. Our role within the broader salesforce is to be a single point of contact for institutional investors who look at most, if not all, of the fixed income products we trade at WFS. When the phone rings, it’s safe to say that the call could be about anything. The learning curve is steep, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
What has been your greatest achievement so far at WFS?
Covering my first account and executing a $50mm trade.
What is the best thing about living and working in your city?
Charlotte, N.C., gives you a city when you need it, green space when you don't, and an international airport when you need to get away. It gives you sports year-round, warm weather, nice people, and a lower cost of living. To be honest, I’m from Charlotte, so I’m a little biased.
Describe your experience and what you learned as a WFS summer analyst.
I interned with WFS two summers ago and had a great experience. I appreciated hearing from various sales and trading teams before deciding on a specific group. I spent the summer with the natural gas trading team within the commodities group, and I learned to understand the nature of trading.
What would you do if you weren't working at WFS?
I like to think I would be traveling. I lived in Rome for a while and caught the travel bug so I have a laundry list of other places I'd like to explore.
