Why did you choose to work at Wells Fargo Securities (WFS)?

I really enjoyed meeting the Wells Fargo Securities team members that came to the information session at my university. They made me feel comfortable and answered any questions I had.

What do you love about your job?

I love being able to easily access my whole team. It makes sharing knowledge and learning a lot easier when your team members are welcoming.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of working in technology at Wells Fargo Securities is understanding and following all of the regulations surrounding the financial industry.

What is the best thing about living and working in your city?

Charlotte, N.C., is very diverse. There are a lot of parks and outdoor activities, bars and clubs, and good food and music. Plus, the cost of living is fairly low compared to other cities.

Who has been the most influential person in your WFS career and why?

The most influential person in my career at Wells Fargo Securities so far is one of my team members, who is always ready to answer my questions and share his knowledge with me.

What would you do if you weren't working at WFS?

If I weren't working at Wells Fargo Securities, I would probably be working with a nonprofit that focuses on animal rights education.

What do you like to do when you aren't at work?

I enjoy spending time with my family and pets, cooking, and volunteering with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs.

Why did you choose to work at Wells Fargo Securities (WFS)?

The opportunities at Wells Fargo Securities (WFS) are suited to my career interests. I enjoy finance, watching the fast-changing financial market, and having the ability to observe how different geopolitical events or companies’ financial decisions affect our lives. I also love technology because it is shaping the world in terms of how people consume information, and it is creating tangible new solutions for decision-making. I believe that WFS is an expanding platform that is positioned for both changing market conditions and technology needs.

Why is WFS a good place to start your career?

Wells Fargo Securities' business is growing. Most importantly, the team members here are really experienced in what they do. There is no other place like this where you can receive such cutting-edge professional training about both finance and technology. If you enjoy learning new things every single day, this is a great place to start.

What do you love about your job?

The people. It’s absolutely fascinating to work with some of the sharpest people in the business.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part so far is gathering useful information and producing actionable ideas for business strategy. A great deal of data comes in from different clients and service-providers. This information has to flow seamlessly to traders and risk managers. It’s a challenging yet exciting task to make sure that we are providing traders and risk managers the correct information to make their decisions.

What is the best thing about living and working in your city?

Charlotte, N.C., is a very vibrant city with many young professionals. If you live anywhere Uptown, it only takes 10 to 15 minutes to walk from home to the office. There are many restaurants, bars, music venues, and sports arenas close to the office. There also is a light rail line in the city that can take you to a new neighborhood, South Park, where you will find premium shops and high-end restaurants. In addition, Charlotte is one of the greenest cities in the U.S. There are parks and recreation centers everywhere. There are many outdoor activities, such as whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking, and my favorite, flying on airplanes. You can fly to any major metropolitan area on the East Coast in about two hours.

Describe your experience and what you learned as a WFS summer analyst.

My summer internship at WFS consisted of one week of intense training on financial products, risk management, excel modeling, and financial statement formatting, as well as general information about the Sales and Trading business lines within Wells Fargo Securities. There were also social and networking events with all the new Sales and Trading summer analysts and senior management. After that, we were assigned to different desks and we each rotated through several different roles. At the end of internship, I gave a presentation to my team and managers.

Where do you see yourself professionally in the next three to five years?

I hope to build a career here at Wells Fargo Securities in the next three to five years. I would like to continue to grow my business knowledge and my network within the firm, so that I can take on more responsibility and contribute to the company’s growth.

What would you do if you weren't working at WFS?

I would work with a few college friends on a secret startup idea.

What do you like to do when you aren't at work?

I like reading, cooking, running, travelling, flying, or anything involved with learning a new skill and being active.

What are your responsibilities at Wells Fargo?

I am a software engineer who helps to ensure our platform works as we advertise it will. Additionally, for the Foreign Exchange Technology team here at Wells Fargo, I am creating a monitoring system to ensure all trades within the platform are processed successfully. If something goes wrong, I need the system to alert the correct personnel to deal with the problem.

Why did you choose to work at Wells Fargo?

I chose to work at Wells Fargo because it is one of the top financial services providers in the nation. It has a great technology team that is constantly looking to improve. Additionally, when I interned here last summer, I fell in love with the culture. I can see myself here at Wells Fargo for years to come.

Why is Wells Fargo a good place to start your career?

Wells Fargo is a good place to start your career because of all the different development opportunities. There are numerous official programs within Wells Fargo, such as the Leadership Pipeline Program (LPP), Financial Analyst Program (FAP), Wealth Management and Investment (WIM) analysts, and others. Wells Fargo values its employees, and I have seen that throughout the company. For me, coming to Wells Fargo was less about getting a job and more about starting my career.

What do you think makes someone successful at Wells Fargo?

There are many things that make someone successful. Here at Wells Fargo, there is a priority on being a hard-worker and keeping the customer in mind. Keeping the customer in mind is crucial on any project because it has led Wells Fargo to become one of the top financial services providers in the nation.

What skills are crucial in your job?

My job consists of solving many different problems, from how to implement a system to how to deal with one change that affects the entire architecture. The most crucial skills to have are problem-solving and the tenacity to not give up when you don’t find the solution easily. Programming and technical skills complement the soft skills I mentioned above.

What do you love about your job?

I love the challenge of my job. I come in everyday with a different set of problems. This has really propelled me to get better at what I do. Along with that, I love working with new technology, and Wells Fargo has given me that opportunity.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job is starting a project. After getting a project description, I have many different ways to go about starting the project. The challenge for me is taking that first step so that the project unfolds the way you want it to.

What is the best thing about living and working in your city?

The best part of living and working in Charlotte, N.C., is being so close to my family. My fiancé and her family are from the south Charlotte area, so it has been amazing to have such a great support system during my transition from college. Another thing I love about the city is all of the great restaurants and local breweries. There is never a time when I don’t have the option of trying a new spot.

What would you do if you weren't working at Wells Fargo?

I would love to work for NASA or another space exploration agency. The space exploration field is fascinating. I have always thought space is the one of the greatest mysteries, and I have been curious since I was a child.

What do you like to do when you aren't at work?

I love to cook. It may seem small, but I love the feeling of creating something that others enjoy. I also love to go hiking and explore new areas. My fiancé and I have only begun to scratch the surface of discovering all of what Charlotte has to offer.

What are your responsibilities at Wells Fargo?

I work within the Project Management Office within Wholesale Technology on the Support and Operational Services team. A senior-level project manager is my mentor, and I am on a "fast-track" training program to become a project manager within this group. I am responsible for ensuring that projects comply with Wells Fargo’s Wholesale Project Management Methodology, a thorough and specific methodology that is used throughout the Project Management Office.

Why did you choose to work at Wells Fargo?

The decision was easy for me because of the Leadership Pipeline Program. I interned with Wells Fargo for a summer and was exposed to the tremendous opportunity at the company. The program gave me the chance to meet with many different groups and gain a better understanding of the company’s depth of work. Well Fargo’s culture and ability to grow my skills as a professional were selling points. I am proud to be a Wells Fargo team member.

Why is Wells Fargo a good place to start your career?

Wells Fargo values team members at every level. Being a college graduate and entering the workforce with professionals who have vast experience is daunting. I was nervous about adapting to the culture and learning what impact I could make on such a large company. It has been so clear that development and growth is important to Wells Fargo. I have experienced that first-hand through the training I am receiving and the overwhelming support from my team.

What do you think makes someone successful at Wells Fargo?

A successful team member at Wells Fargo is someone whose values align with the company's culture. Our company focuses on providing the best service and products for our customers. Our efforts are in place to maintain our coveted reputation with our customers and to enhance it. A hard-working team member is one who keeps that goal in perspective will be successful.

What skills are crucial in your job?

Communication is crucial. I work with a team of people from very different groups, serving different efforts for each part of a project. Having an open platform for communication, where everyone can align thoughts and objectives, is crucial to a project’s success. Additionally, time management is crucial. Sticking to a project timeline is extremely important because there is a domino-like effect of consequences if you fall behind.

What do you love about your job?

I love that I can see the effects of my work. In such a large organization, I am aware of my role in the greater picture, which gives me a great sense of pride in my work. I feel driven and motivated to do my best, knowing that my effort is valued. It’s a great feeling to understand your purpose and believe you contribute to the success of a company.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job is jumping into a project that has already begun and getting up to speed with the rest of team. To be successful, it’s important to familiarize myself with the project background so I can prevent any overlap and mistakes that could affect the critical path and timeline. That has been a learning curve. Yet because of the support and patience of my mentor and team, I feel comfortable even with this challenge.

What is the best thing about living and working in your city?

I went to school in Minneapolis and have always loved the hustle and bustle of the downtown scene. The sense of urgency and the overwhelming smell of coffee 24/7 are appealing. Wells Fargo has a huge presence in Minneapolis, so it makes me proud to know that I work for one of the top companies in the city. The snow is very prominent, but that’s why we have our vast skyway system.

What would you do if you weren't working at Wells Fargo?

I would be pursuing an M.B.A. Graduate school, especially with the heightened level of competition in the workforce.

What do you like to do when you aren’t at work?

My family grew up on tennis, so I play as often as I can. I also love to be busy, so I am constantly out of the house, meeting friends, running errands, or hunting down all the materials for my latest do-it-yourself (DIY) Pinterest project. I like to be on the move.
