What Vanessa Does (part 1)

[Visual: Vanessa speaks to the camera while sitting in an office.]

Vanessa: How I've had to think about becoming a manager or a leader at Wells Fargo is reorganizing my day and how I construct my day. So, it's no longer come in with your to-do list and that's what you spend all day doing is ticking off all the things that you need to do to accomplish the tasks that you have.

It becomes, what does my team need that day? How do I prioritize their needs, as there'll be too many that I can actually handle in that day? And then, how do I deal with the things that I won't get to? And then, when do I find the time to get to the things that are on my to-do list?

And sometimes that involves nights and weekends or just learning, again, prioritization in that to-do list, as well. But I generally would say it just comes down to no longer thinking about me and thinking about all the people that work for you and the collective team and focusing your energies on their to-do list, frankly, and understanding that, even though you might have operated in a certain way and that worked for you and sometimes you want to be tough and say, well, I did it, so do it like this, knowing that everyone is different and learns different and is motivated different. And so you really need to learn the folks that work for you, what motivates them, how do they best excel, and try to deliver through that lens for each and every one of them individually.
